Individual Donations via Gift Aid
If you are a UK taxpayer and make a cash donation from your post-tax income, you can sign a Gift Aid declaration. This boosts your donation at no extra cost to you, and offers additional personal tax breaks for higher earners:
Basic Rate Taxpayers (20%): The charity reclaims 25p for every £1 you donate directly from HMRC. You do not receive a personal tax refund, but your charitable impact increases by 25%.
Higher Rate (40%) and Additional Rate (45%) Taxpayers: The charity still reclaims the basic 20%. However, you can personally claim back the difference between the basic rate and your highest tax band (an extra 20% or 25%).
How to Claim: Declare your grossed-up donations in the "Charitable giving" section of your HMRC Self Assessment tax return. Alternatively, you can ask HMRC to adjust your PAYE tax code.
