Water Survival Box

Helping People in Need.

The  Rotary  Water Survival Box initiative was   launched in 2004 at Chelwood Village Hall in Somerset following the Indian Ocean tsunami and contains water filters, hygiene items and basic tools.

Since then, the project has been used in 92 natural and man-made disasters around the world, including in 47 different countries, most recently in Lebanon and Ukraine.

Clean water is essential to protect against water-borne disease. In most natural disasters, homes have been destroyed and all possessions lost. The box also contains a range of essential survival items including cooking pots, bowls/plates, mugs, and utensils; health and hygiene items; basic shelter and simple tools.

The First Consignment

The first consignment of 60 Water Survival Boxes was sent to the Philippines following a devastating typhoon. Since then aid has been sent to many countries in SE Asia, Africa, S America and the Caribbean
The trustees have a policy of continuous improvement through continual review, informed by feedback from those involved in distributing our boxes and on-going research. The box, water purification kit, other contents, as well as methods of delivery and distribution have all been improved.  Find out more about our work below.

How You can Help

Many people support the work of Water Survival Box Ltd by helping to promote our work within their local communities – or example, in local schools. This can both raise awareness of what we do and can be a great source of fundraising for us. If you would like to support us in this way we would be delighted to hear from you – please go to the ‘Contact’ page on this website. There is also a Resources section from which leaflets, posters and presentations can be downloaded. We further promote our charity via the social media. Safe Water for Indonesian Village Community

The pictures confirm completion of a major sustainable water project in East Java, Indonesia initiated by Rotary charity Water Survival Box Ltd and Chelwood Bridge Rotary Club. Previously the Marmoyo village water supply was intermittent at best and non-existent during the six months dry season. A deep new borehole now gives access to the subterranean aquifers. Members of the local community and Indonesian Rotary Clubs admire the pumping mechanism and pipework taking safe drinking water to the reservoir. In the coming months pipework will link individual houses to the new water supply. Another Rotary project improving the lives of families.

The photos show:   Briefing session for members of the village community,  Local Rotarians and village representatives at the pumping station  and at the Reservoir – with a plaque bearing the names of Chelwood Bridge Rotary Club and the four Indonesian Rotary Clubs that combined on the project.
